道路安全局:六月一日起车辆须安装合格轮胎

（吉隆坡19日讯）大马道路安全局总监拿督苏立星指出，从6月1日起，私人及商用车辆必须安装符合大马规格，即印有“MS”、“E”及“DOT”标志的轮胎。
他今日（周五，4月10日）在安隆大道的拿督克拉末收费站主持道路安全运动后说，根据2007年交通工具（制造及使用）（修正）条例的30及46条文（轮胎），私人及商用车辆必须安装符合以上规格的轮胎。他也提醒驾驶人士，根据大马道路安全研究院（Miros）的统计显示，2007年因交通工具故障引起的死亡车祸当中，有15%或65起案件与轮胎性能有关，另外煞车器失灵占50%。这也说明了大马公路使用者对轮胎性能的安全性掉以轻心。他也吁请驾驶者每两周检查轮胎气压，若车子在气压不足的情况下行驶，将增加约5%耗油量。
他说，每条轮胎皆有注明其气压、驶速及承载量限制和制造日期，例如印有‘2804’数字的轮胎，表示它是在2004年第28周制造，轮胎寿命只有4年，若逾期了还继续使用，已硬化的塑胶将导致轮胎在行驶中有爆裂的可能性。用20仙测验轮胎花纹
他也教导驾驶人士如何为轮胎进行简单的“20仙测验”，以鉴定是否须要更换轮胎。“方法是将20仙嵌入轮胎的纹理，若不见‘SEN’字眼表示轮胎花纹仍足够；反之，若‘SEN’字眼显现，则意味轮胎花纹已磨蚀至需要更换的程度。”

JPJ nod for lorries to carry heavier loads
JOHOR BARU: Lorries will be allowed to carry heavier loads under new guidelines being drawn up by the Government.
Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said a decision on the new load was expected to be made by June and would cover lorry operators nationwide.

He said the details were still being worked out by the Works Ministry, adding that it had agreed to new weight limits.
Solah said the decision was being taken following requests by operators to be allowed to increase their load limit to international standards.
They had pointed out that road conditions in the country had improved and vehicles were also better equipped to carry heavier loads, he told a press conference at the state JPJ office after a dialogue session with lorry operators here.
“They have also told us about how the economic situation has affected their businesses,” he said, adding that lorry operators were hoping to lower their operating costs with the increased weight limit as they would be making fewer trips.
At present, international standards allow lorries to carry a maximum of 12 tonnes per axle, but in Malaysia, the limit is set at between eight and nine tonnes per axle.
On a separate matter, Solah said the written test for those learning to drive would be simplified as many prospective drivers had found the test questions confusing.
He said that while the content for the test would remain the same, the method of asking and answering the questions would be made simpler.
“Those who are illiterate and slow will also be able to drive soon as we will offer special tests for them from next month,” he said.
Meanwhile, Johor Lorry Operators Association president Leow Hock Tiap said he welcomed the move to increase the load limit for lorries.

Sabah transport woes get MCA pledge

Kota Kinabalu: The MCA will continue to play a pivotal role in solving the transportation problems in Sabah, said its President Datuk Ong Tee Keat.
He said MCA viewed the transportation problem facing the State as part of the national problem that needed attention.
"We in MCA will continue to help the Sabah Government solve this problem, particularly (with regard to) the public transportation system.
"We will gather all related information and bring up the issue at the federal level for further action," he said after attending Sabah MCA's Chinese New Year open house at the hall of the Kota Kinabalu High School, on Tuesday.
Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman were among the dignitaries who attended the open house.
Ong, who is Transport Minister, said he had instructed the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director-General and JPJ officers to go down to the ground in Sabah to hear the people's grouses, particularly the stakeholders or those involved in the transportation industry.
"This is one way to fast-track the solution to the transportation problems in Sabah. So far, the response has been very good and the JPJ, under my Ministry, will continue to go to the ground for a similar purpose in the other states.
"After this Chinese New Year, JPJ officers will go down to Kedah to see what needs to be improved or done there as far as the transportation system is concerned," he said.
